filed under cake, trip

in case you were wondering, i’ve been away. i meant to give you a headzup, really, but all of a sudden i was in the car, heading off to where the grass is green and the air is clean and the birdsong is plentiful and incessant.

this cream horn was the last cake of the journey, devoured yesterday afternoon in a grassy spot in the shade of the centrelink building at bateman’s bay. more updates soonish, but first, three or four loads of laundry must be addressed.

thank you. thank you. it’s nice to be back.

Plentiful and incessant? — it sounds like you’ve been to the land of the bell-birds. The fun never stops.

Is that a photoshop trick or did you really put the cream horn on the grass to snap it?

Glad you are back. I kept visiting and seeing the bakery treats, and wondering if you had stopped your adventures.

santos: haha. you are too late: i started off the cream horn by saying, “well, i’ll just have the tip off the end… maybe i’ll have half now and half for later in the car…” and then it was all gone. i’d have to say it was one of the better cream horns i’ve had, because the cream was lightly whipped, not that usual dense oil-slicky butter cream, and the pastry was lightly crunchy, and there was sugary red jam all the way through, hurrah!

simon: yay, simon! yes, it was nonstop beeps and boops of the bellbirds, much more pleasant and charming than if it had been, say, roosters or ravens.

saffron: oh i really did put the cream horn on the grass, much to the horror of the boy. “a dog has probably pissed on that grass,” he said, and then a minute later, while i was crouched over it with my camera, “um, could you get the cream horn off that dog-piss-infested grass?”

and then, “can i have a bite?”

the cakery bakery adventures will not stop, oh no.
