filed under packaging, snacks, something new

oh what a bounty of new junkfood products have crossed these lips of late. you may recall the melted-butter-twisties-corn-puffs alert from several weeks ago. i found them, finally. after wrenching the packet open, i realised that they were meant to mimic melted butter flavoured popcorn. however it was like eating extremely salty packing material. tchk.

there are three new sorts of tim tams: one with a truffle cream filling (maybe a truffle creme filling), one with a chilli chocolate filling, and the one i did buy, the black forest tim tam. dark chocolate on the outside with a slightly gummy thread of “cherry” flavoured goo on the inside. feh.

there is possibly the best kettle chip ever! kettle chips are the tastiest chip to begin with, and the sour cream and sweet chilli ones really raised the chip stakes. but now that they come in wasabi and soy flavour, there is just no need to spend any more time in the chip aisle wondering which bag to get. this is a salty and tangy and crunchy chip, with a subtle wasabi effect. none of that nose-clearing, face-scrunching bravado that pepsimax sorts in sushi restaurants display, dredging their bits of fish in the little green mountains. hurrah!

there is this:

according to the text on the back of the package, the chips are “combined with your favourite chinese flavours. so you don’t have to leave home to experience the taste of your favourite chinese restaurant.” these chips were not discernably beefy (or special saucy), but they were kind of alright. the chinese fortune that i found inside said “someone called larry will call you soon”.

Oh this pack of chips reminds me of the silly commercial – “he’ll be back” & “kids. I love kids!”
I recently acquired a pack of rockdeli (or issit deli rock)’s rice crisp in tomato, basil & bocconcini flavour. It resembles a bit like the keropok we had back home.
Pity Smiths doesnt have BIg Red tomato anymore. It’s my favourite.

Hi it’s Larry! Come on down!

That’s what I’d be expecting anyway. Can’t beat good old fashioned emdurtainment! It’s actually tvdog. Is the wasabi in the wasabi peas class or just a hint?

tym: following your incredulous post, i thought it was my duty to go out and procure a packet of chilli chocolate timtams, so that i could respond in as detailed a manner as possible. so. the chilli is extremely subtle — “warming” is how the copy on the packet described it — but it seems to be blended into quite a dark chocolate filling, sandwiched between dark chocolate biscuits, coated in dark chocolate, so overall a delicious experience!

nellie: when you get here it will not be christmas, so not only will you get to do all that, but everything else besides coles will be open for breakfasts and lunches, hurrah! also, the child is reaping all the benefits of this consumed junkfood, um, hurrah?

pinkcocoa: at first i was very confused about the ads… i thought you were talking about some sort of arnold schwarzenegger promotion, referencing “terminator” and “kindergarten cop”. but then i just saw the ad you mean, only the tail end though, so i still have no idea what’s going on. 🙂

re: rice crisps. they would be some gourmet keropok then, what will the basil and bocconcini. i’ve been debating whether or not to give them a go. was afraid they might be too similar in texture to those styrofoam rice cakes.

re: smiths. i’d just go the hot chips and tomato sauce route. yum

tvdog: in fact i was rather hoping it would be that larry who’d be calling, to tell me i’d somehow won some sort of random home viewer’s monster showcase prize. still waiting…

the wasabi is somewhere inbetween. they are really good chips!

    hey bowb
hopefully you catch that funny smith chips ad. It’s really silly.

re: rice crisp. Actually after you mentioned it, they did taste a little like styrofoam rice cakes. er…
