if you do not hear from me in the next… whenever, it could be because the “yoshi's island” cartridge that i “won” on ebay for my gameboy advance sp finally arrived. woohoo.

the story with the cartridge is that i already have a “yoshi’s island” cartridge. what i mean by that is i already have a cartridge called “114 in 1, no repeats”, on which one of the 114 games is “yoshi’s island”. a couple of years ago, when i fronted up at the counter of a cartridge shop in singapore asking for the latest super mario game for my shiny new gameboy, the guy behind the counter asked quite sincerely, “why would you want to pay $60 for just one game, when you can buy this one –” reaching into a hidden drawer under the counter “– with 114 games for $100?”

yeah, it only kind of made sense back then too.

incidentally, “no repeats” means variations on a theme are rife, for example “mappy” is on there three or four times, where mappy is replaced in each version by mario or a rabbit or someother random 80s-style pixelated arcade type character. but, also, there are two kinds of tetris, yay.

anyway. so one day, “yoshi’s island” lost the ability to save the game progress, and i was doomed to spend eternity wandering world 1-1. let’s call it karma. or, “oh, so that’s why i would want to pay $60 for one game instead of $100 for… oh never mind.

fast forward to a couple weeks ago, when my latest ebay trawl for “yoshi island gba” yielded “new in box” for $8. before too long, the price was up to $9.50, and it was mine! it showed up in my mailbox yesterday, and after i tore it out of the envelope, i noticed that a line of print on the box read, “not compatible with other gasme boy systems”. yes, gasme.

hem. at least it saves game progress.

p.s., if, hypothetically, people go visit you in august, and if, hypothetically, people want to play yoshi’s island, because, really, you are supposed to be all eyes on kid, can said hypothetical people also save their gasme progress, or is saving only for one person where that person is, not hypothetically, you?

well, well, “i’m not addicted to yoshi’s island”.

in fact there is space for three gasmes to be saved… so maybe one will be for the baby. it’s never to soon to get that hand-eye coordination sorted, or the thumbs primed for a life of txting.

video games on your food blog. wow, the world has turned it’s apple over. 😉

if you want, i could get you a copy that runs on your desktop/laptop. i know i have it lying around here somewhere, among the thousands of games in my office.

i’ve never actually played yoshi’s island, can you believe. never a big nintendo fan… even tho i’ve owned every nintendo machine at one point or other. strange, no?

ah, it’s like that thrill i feel when i read a latenightnoodle post in amongst your tales of new hardware and PSPs… and girls. 😀

gasp! they made “yoshi’s island” for PC!? i can just see it would be my downfall; i’m unproductive and procrastinatory enough as it is with “just” the internet on here. though if you did happen to stumble upon it in your office, i could not guarantee that i would turn it down. 🙂

    on noodles:

hmm. i am nibbling on some pasta salad from the supermarket for lunch — first time ever — and realized how amazingly Metro it is…

the “shell pasta with creamy basil dressing” is disgusting. note to self: never buy anything with the word “creamy” ever again.

as for the orzo feta salad, it’s surprisingly not bad. i used to be averse to feta — i used to get really bad allergic reactions to it. so, silly me, i kept trying it every once in awhile. and now, i like it, and sometimes even get feta cravings. can you believe?

    on yoshi:

well, it’s not technically for the pc. it’s a direct port you run with an emulator. i’ll see if i can find it…

o.< i am appalled that you bought creamy pasta salad from the supermarket. the creamy pasta salad at my supermaket always looks like a big tub of botulism waiting to happen.
